Details:
Dorian Zachai (1932-2015) was a pioneer of the new fiber art in the mid-twentieth century and yet she has been lost from its history. Join art historian Samantha De Tillio as she explores Zachai’s contributions to a changing field of art, including her abandonment of rectilinear form, integration of found objects, and explosion into three-dimensional space. Hailed the “Great American Weaver,” Zachai snubbed her success in order to live an uncompromising life outside the contemporary capitalist construct that even grew to include the art
Painting a vivid picture of an artist whose search for authenticity in life and work resulted in tapestries rooted in myth, womanhood, and the land, De Tillio seeks to restore this enigmatic artist to the canon and establish her legacy.
